What a pleasure it was photographing Iona and Iain’s special day at Armathwaite Hall in the heart of the Lake District. The setting was absolutely stunning, with picturesque gardens and an 11th century building that felt like it had a million stories to tell. I started by capturing shots of the hall and garden, then met Iona getting ready with her tea and macaroons – so cozy and romantic!
When Iona walked down the aisle in her gorgeous Stella York dress, it was like something out of a fairytale. Iain looked super handsome in his kilt and the ceremony was magical, with a sleepy cat on the stairs adding a touch of adorable mischief. The violinist playing Can’t Help Falling in Love created a truly romantic atmosphere that fit the historic building perfectly.
Everyone was blown away by the beauty of the flowers, the kindness of the staff, and the technical beauty of the cake flowers (too cute!!). Everything about the day was so warm and inviting, just like Iona and Iain themselves. The sunset was incredibly romantic, and I could have photographed them for days on end.
If you’re planning a wedding at Armathwaite Hall, you’ve chosen a truly perfect spot for your special day. It was an absolute joy to be a part of such a beautiful love story.
Congratulations Iona & Iain x
Can you tell me a little bit about both of you that you would be willing to share (How you met, the proposal) etc?
After being together for 11 years we decided it was now time to tie the knot. We decided we didn’t want to wait too long so organised our wedding in 5 months.
What was the first step in planning your wedding?
Our first step in planning our wedding was the venue. We knew we wanted somewhere traditional and in the countryside with nice scenery so when we went to visit the Lake District in February we knew it had to be here!
Did you create any Do It Yourself projects?
I usually love a ‘do it yourself project’, however we decided since we are both really busy running two businesses we would have a fairly hassle free wedding. However we did have one project that we worked on together which was my ring, which I absolutely love and can’t wait to wear. I am a Jeweller so after some thinking I decided to do something a bit different and started to design a combined engagement and wedding ring. After some design input and gemstone selection from Iain, I got off to the workshop to start creating it.
Any advice for future Brides & Grooms in planning their wedding?
There’s no right or wrong way in doing things when it comes to wedding planning. Don’t feel like you have to follow the norm, do what’s best for you as a couple.
Are you having a Honeymoon? Where are you going?
We are having a mini-moon to Lake Windermere the day after the wedding.
How are you both feeling/doing at this stage of the process?
Feeling organised but maybe hasn’t really sunk it we are getting married in 9 days!
Which part of your wedding day are you looking forward to the most?
Probably the ceremony in general, and sneaking off to our surprise view.
